La Trattoria Italia

I don’t know what was your best ever Italian dining experience. La Trattoria Italia was one of mine. Having lived in Cali for almost than 2 years, about a year ago, by accident, I stumbled upon this fine little eatery in the heart of Barrio San Antonio. Boy was I in for a surprise. Italian owner Tomaso sure knows his trade.
The decor is cozy and has an open patio in the middle of the dining area with a view of the kitchen. The service attentive, yet discrete – far better than in most restaurants in Colombia. Everything tastes fresh! Even the pasta is made from scratch, and trust me, you can tell the difference. The wine list good by Colombian standards and not overpriced like in most places.

I recommend the “TAGLIATELLA FUNGHI E SALSICCIA” which may very well be the best pasta dish I have ever eaten in my entire life. The steak “AL PEPE VERDE” is also delicious. I’ve probably been to Trattoria Italia 6 times by know and never left disappointed.

This is the Ferrari of Italien restaurants in Cali.. and probably even in the entire country. The purest, the most authentic, the most elegant. And while more pricey than your Colombian fritanga, eating here won’t break your wallet either. For the price, this an unbeatable deal and something that would easily cost you 2-3 times the price in Europe or the United States. Expect to spend around $30-60.000 pesos per person.
