🥾 Best Hikes Near Cali With a View (and a Workout)
DIY Adventures – No Guide Required
Tres Cruces – Cali’s Iconic Three Crosses
Cali’s most iconic urban hike. This steep, sweaty trail is a morning ritual for many locals. At the summit, you’ll find giant crosses, fresh fruit juice stands, and sweeping city views. It’s also a great place to meet other hikers.
There are countless additional trails on the mountain, many popular with MTB and enduro riders. The possibilities are practically endless — you can hike all the way to La Paz, Golondrina, Dapa, and beyond.
Starting Points:
- 📍 Juanambú – starts with the 900+ step climb up the stairs.
- 📍 Normandía – starts on a rocky trail right in the barrio.
Tip: Join one of the weekly night hikes on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Just bring a headlamp and a sense of adventure!
Cerro de las Banderas
A quieter alternative to Tres Cruces, this eucalyptus-lined trail ends with a massive Colombian flag and panoramic views. It’s perfect for a calm morning or sunset stroll.
Cristo Rey Trail (via Cali Zoo or HUV Hospital)
Most people taxi up to the Cristo Rey statue, but the more adventurous plan is to take the scenic (and secret) trail starting behind the Cali Zoo. It’s steep but worth it, with shady side paths and unbeatable views of Cali’s west side. This hike is little-known even among locals.
- 📍 Zoo trailhead (approximate) — look for a hidden path in the bushes
- 📍 New city walkway from HUV Hospital — a newly developed route to Cristo Rey. This is the 5-star version of the hike. Though the walkway is still being finish the first sections have been opened to the public and they are already a big hit.
Virgen de Yanaconas
This lesser-known hike leads to a hilltop Virgin statue with arguably the best view in Cali. Start behind the zoo, hike past the river crossing and up to Ventiaderos. Then cross the road and keep climbing until you reach the virgin monument.
From the statue you can hike all the way to Pance on the mountain ridge, but this requires a full day and it’s best to go with someone who knows the route.
📍 Trail entrance with concrete tire tracks
💡 Watch out for downhill bikers on the way up. Feeling tired? Flag down a “guala” (jeep) or “chiva” (bus) to get back to town.

🧭 Guided Summit Hikes in Farallones National Park
Some of the most rewarding hikes around Cali are deeper in the Andes and require a guide. The Farallones national park encompasses almost 200.000 hectares and is easily accessible from the city. My favorite summit hikes are…
Pico de Loro
A full-day hike through cloud forest to one of the Farallones’ most dramatic ridges. Wild orchids, misty views, and serious bragging rights await.
Pico Pance
At over 4,000 meters (13,000+ ft), this is the highest peak in the park — and it’s no joke. A two-day expedition for experienced hikers with unforgettable vistas.
💡 Do not attempt these hikes without a guide. One, it’s mandatory. Two, the trails can be hard to follow, and people have gotten lost and required rescue.
💦 Best Rivers and Waterfalls Near Cali to Cool Off
Cali gets hot — and locals know the best way to cool off is in nature.
Río Pance
Cali’s go-to river escape. Cold, clean, and surrounded by nature. Head to La Vorágine for river access, nature trails, and rustic restaurants.
Río Pichindé & Charco Azul
Past Ventiaderos lies the tiny village of Pichindé, where jungle rivers merge into beautiful swimming holes. Keep walking to find the Los Andes village and Charco Azul, a quiet spot during the week and social on Sundays.
Cascada La Reina
One of Cali’s hidden gems. This 30–40 minute jungle hike leads to a refreshing waterfall and natural pool. Perfect for a mid-morning adventure.
🌄 Cali: Nature’s Playground
Cali isn’t just a city — it’s a gateway to the Andes. In just 20 minutes, you can go from salsa to summit, and from hot pavement to cool mountain river.

💡 Local tip: Always start early to avoid the heat, bring plenty of water, sunblock, a hat, some cash — and don’t hike alone. Apps like AllTrails and WikiLoc can be a great help – especially for first-timers.
